This dark angel was exiled from Heaven after challenging God Himself to war. If that's not a rebel than I don't know what is. Lucifer, even after losing the war and befallen into a dark pit, was a very prideful person and a man of principle. He wasn't a fan of the whole "ignorance is bliss" thing and refused to blindly follow authority. For that reason he had many other angels who followed him down to his descent. 
After being fallen, Lucifer renamed himself Satan (maybe to reshape his image) and as Satan (in serpent form) persuaded Eve into tempting Adam to question God, (thus casting them out) just as he did in the past.
